Austin Aeschbacher

The dental profession’s loss was the teaching profession’s gain.

After starting off as a business major with a focus on dentistry at Baylor, Austin Aeschbacher had an epiphany while playing on the drumline in Baylor’s Golden Wave Band – he decided his calling was to teach music to kids.

“My reason was simple: I wanted to make a difference in the lives of young people,” Austin said. “I believed in my philosophy that every child can learn.”

Now beginning his third year at Skyview Elementary School in Richardson ISD, Austin earned his degree in Leadership & Policy Studies, which he has applied to his career with great gusto. In addition to his work as PTA Secretary, Austin is involved with the Academy for Creative Excellence and is the enrichment cluster coordinator in his differentiation committee.

Austin said he likes to do lots of “outside-the-box” activities to help the kids be inspired to learn even more.

He, along with mentor Stephanie Miller, who was the RISD Teacher of the Year in 2014, teaches 750 students in classes of about 40-50 students each. Miller nominated him for the Texas PTA Elementary Teacher of the Year award. Austin got his degree while balancing his teaching duties. And his motivation motor never seems to stop running.

“When I became a teacher at Skyview, the teachers and the PTA helped expand my philosophy,” he said. “Now, it’s every child can learn, and it is our job to make sure it happens by being innovative, relentless and creative in the pursuit to ensure that our students receive the best!”
