After completing associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degree programs in nursing, Leslie Chamblee has experienced the value of ongoing education. With each higher-level credential, she benefits from an upward transition in her career.
Leslie served as a licensed practical nurse for a decade before enrolling in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing online program at The University of Texas at Arlington. The program’s flexibility enabled Leslie to keep working while pursuing her BSN and after graduating, she earned a role as a simulation educator for a college in Florida.
Due to the exceptional support from UTA’s faculty and the school’s user-friendly online platform, Leslie decided to keep striving academically. While in Florida, she completed her next UTA online program: the Master of Science in Nursing in Nursing Education.
“It was just a positive experience overall,” she said. “I like the way the program is set up online. It’s easy to navigate. The academic advisors were very helpful and supportive.”
Upon completing her master’s program, Leslie was able to transition into a higher-paying role, this time as faculty at a Tampa university. “The raise in my pay level was twice as much as what I was making before. There’s no doubt that’s been beneficial,” she said. “Going forward, I’m moving up the ladder and taking on leadership roles.”
She believes the Master of Science in Nursing will continue giving her a competitive edge for faculty appointments and leadership roles, given that many RNs teaching or running labs in nursing simulation only have a BSN.
Although she is pleased with the accolades the MSN and her hard work has afforded her, she plans to continue studying. UTA encourages lifelong learning, and Leslie agrees with the ideology that knowledge expansion leads to increased opportunities. She is now pursuing certification as a healthcare simulation educator and is considering enrolling in a nursing doctorate program.
Leslie has already referred several contacts and recommends that any professional seeking promotional opportunities in nursing pursue higher education from one of UTA’s accredited online programs. She advises, “Go for it. Prioritize your education. Set your goals and work toward them. Never give up.”
