What Is CCNE Accreditation?

When you are researching RN to BSN programs that you can complete online, you have certain criteria in mind that the program must meet. You look at the available classes, the reputation of the program and the caliber of the instructors. Another key consideration, however, is accreditation. You want to find a program that is accredited, and CCNE accreditation is ideal for nursing programs.

CCNE Accreditation Defined

CCNE is the abbreviation for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, which is a national accrediting agency. Its goal is to ensure that college nursing programs abide by high standards of curriculum, faculty and more. The CCNE dates back to 1996, when the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) founded the agency that began its accrediting functions in 1998. Nursing education programs can only pursue CCNE accreditation if they have already earned accreditation from another national or regional accrediting agency. Various programs can receive CCNE accreditation, including bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, as well as distance and online learning programs.

Value of Accreditation to Students and Employers

Attending a BSN online program that has received CCNE accreditation offers many benefits. For one, graduates enjoy more job opportunities because potential employers want candidates who have completed an accredited program. In addition, many master’s-level programs requires applicants to have completed an accredited BSN program.

Accreditation is also valuable for hospitals and other healthcare employers. It helps them in the hiring process, as they know that their newest employees have attended a program that meets stringent criteria. They can expect a high level of nursing knowledge and skill from graduates of these programs.

How CCNE Programs and the Public Benefit from Accreditation

Accreditation is worthwhile for programs or schools because the designation provides a level of prestige and helps them attract excellent prospective students. Additionally, accreditation benefits the community, in that it elevates the standards in the nursing profession and provides local residents with highly trained and educated nurses.

Let your BSN online program work for you by choosing a nursing program with CCNE accreditation. When you complete the program, a world of career opportunity awaits you.
