The MBA Graduate Studies Committee has a set of conditions that allow applicants to be unconditionally admitted without review by the MBA Admissions Committee. The MBA Graduate Advisor reviews all applications and determines if they qualify for admission under this criteria. Applicants who do not satisfy the following conditions for unconditional admission are referred to the MBA Admissions Committee for consideration.

Unconditional Admission

Applicants qualify for unconditional admission if they meet the following criteria: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of undergraduate* work and GMAT total score of at least 500 with verbal and quantitative scores at the 30th percentile or higher (on both). An equivalent GRE score will be accepted in lieu of the GMAT.

*A graduate grade point average is used when it is 3.0 or above and is based on at least 24 semester hours.

Foundation Pathway courses will be required for students who do not have a business undergraduate degree.

An applicant whose native language is not English must demonstrate a sufficient level of skill with the English language to assure success in graduate studies as defined in the TOEFL and IELTS Test Score Minimums section under Admissions Requirements and Procedures in the Graduate Catalog.

Provisional Admission

Applicants can qualify for provisional admission if an official test score or transcript has not been submitted.

Probationary Admission

Probationary admission is considered by the MBA Admissions Committee upon a holistic review for an applicant who does not meet unconditional or provisional admission. Items below will be used to indicate potential for successful academic performance and identify positive indicators for a probationary admission. The Admissions committee will ask for these additional documents if needed.

  • A resume that highlights professional and personal accomplishments, linguistic abilities, computer expertise and leadership experience. Applicants with two to five years of experience are preferred.
  • Grades in specified undergraduate business and non-business courses (math, accounting, economics or statistics, for example). The focus is on the last 60 hours of coursework.
  • Educational objectives and quality of written expression of the 200-word application essay. This essay should be completed in the application process and should express to UTA your story. Use this opportunity to explain GPA, employment gaps and any other information that you feel will help the Admissions Committee in considering your application.
  • Letters of recommendation from persons familiar with the applicant's academic background and/or work experience who can assess the applicant's potential success in graduate school are not required, but can be helpful as the Admissions Committee reviews your application.
  • General and specific program accreditation status of degree-granting institution.
  • Professional certification or licensure (on a case-by-case basis).

All students taking the Foundation Pathway courses are admitted on probation. Those enrolled in the Foundation Pathway courses must earn a 3.0 GPA, with only one C grade allowed. Upon successful completion of the Foundation Pathway courses, admission is changed to unconditional. If the GPA is less than 3.0, students will not be able to continue in the online MBA program. All students earning a 2.5 GPA or higher will receive a Dean's Business Foundations Certificate.

Deferred and Denied Admission

A deferred decision may be made when an applicant's file is not sufficiently complete to make an admission decision, or when an applicant needs to improve certain criteria to enhance their competitive status for future admission consideration. For an applicant with an academic record and GMAT scores falling substantially below unconditional admission standards, and lacking sufficient evidence to indicate potential for academic success as an MBA student, admission will likely be denied. All applicant data will be carefully reviewed before an admission denial is made. The decision to defer/deny admission is not based on any single criterion.

There are multiple pathways to admission into the online MBA at UTA. Please speak with an Enrollment Advisor to determine which one is right for you. At a minimum, you will need the following:

Courses

In order to earn your Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Health Care online, you must complete 12 courses totaling 36 credit hours. Additional Foundation Pathway Courses may be required if your undergraduate degree is not in business, if your GMAT score is lower than 500, or if you do not take the GMAT exam. FINA 5311: Business Financial Management

Duration: 7 weeks  |  Credit Hours: 3

Study of providing the organization with funds necessary for its operation and for achieving effective utilization of funds. Primary emphasis on financial decision-making within organizations, and techniques for financial analysis and forecasting.

MARK 5311: Marketing

Duration: 7 weeks  |  Credit Hours: 3

Survey of activities involved in marketing. Emphasis is on developing a managerial point of view in planning and evaluating marketing decisions of the firm. Analyzes decisions with respect to products, price, channel and promotional variables and considers questions relating to cost efficiency, demand, social responsibility and regulations.

OPMA 5361: Operations Management

Duration: 7 weeks  |  Credit Hours: 3

Introduction to concepts and problem-solving techniques important in production management and operations management. Topics include demand forecasting, capacity management, resource allocation, inventory management, supply chain management, quality control, and project management.

ACCT 5302: Accounting Analysis II

Duration: 7 weeks  |  Credit Hours: 3

Introduction to concepts, purposes, problems, methodology and terminology of managerial accounting.

MANA 5336: Strategic Management

Duration: 7 weeks  |  Credit Hours: 3

Strategic management uses a general management perspective in addressing issues related to the formulation and implementation of corporate and business level strategy. The course involves developing the ability to identify issues, evaluate strategic options and understand the organizational process by which strategies get formed and executed. It builds on the knowledge gained in functional area courses and uses case studies and projects to improve students' analytical and decision-making skills. Prerequisite: must be taken in last semester or with permission of the Graduate Advisor. Satisfactory completion of this course fulfills the Comprehensive Examination.

ECON 5313: Decisions and Strategies

Duration: 7 weeks  |  Credit Hours: 3

Application of economic analysis in formulating business decisions based on the theoretical foundations of demand, cost, production, profits and competition. Macroeconomic topics of particular relevance to managers are included.

BLAW 5330: Legal Environment of Business

Duration: 7 weeks  |  Credit Hours: 3

The basic structure and processes of the legal system are reviewed, followed by coverage of key common law areas and major regulatory rules that impact business. The focus is on a working knowledge of the law that has the greatest impact on business today, as well as the social and ethical issues that may be related to legal issues.

INSY 5375: Management of Information Technologies

Duration: 7 weeks  |  Credit Hours: 3

This course covers topics on the management of information technologies (IT) from the viewpoint of senior managers. Subjects discussed include the strategic role of IT to gain competitive advantage, internet-based business models, building a lean and agile organization through IT, managing IT security and reliability, evolving models of IT service delivery—such as cloud computing and open source, management of outsourcing, IT governance, and ethical issues in the digital era. In addition to classroom lectures, the course relies heavily on case analysis and discussion to provide a real-world perspective of issues related to IT management.

MANA 5360: Leadership & Teams

Duration: 7 weeks  |  Credit Hours: 3

One of the most difficult challenges that organizations face is acquiring, developing and retaining high talent human capital. This course is concerned with effective leadership, team-based work systems, and talent management for building high performance organizations.

HCAD 5301: Health Care Administration I

Duration: 7 weeks  |  Credit Hours: 3

Introduction to health care; legislation; reimbursement systems; characteristic administrative and clinical roles' responsibilities and education; public healthcare structures; regulatory agencies; health industry trends; advances in research and technologies.

HCAD 5330: Services Marketing Management

Duration: 7 weeks  |  Credit Hours: 3

Examines conceptual frameworks and management practices particularly relevant to the health care industry. The course examines many concepts and theories from the service marketing industry and analyzes their values in crafting marketing strategies.

HCAD 5333: Economics of Health

Duration: 7 weeks  |  Credit Hours: 3

Economic analysis applied to current health policy issues, including health expenditures, public and private insurance, incentives, provider education and labor markets, hospitals, prescription drugs, malpractice, long-term care, the internet, and various proposals for reform.

These courses may be required if your undergraduate degree is not in business, if your GMAT score is lower than 500, or if you do not take the GMAT exam.

ACCT 5301: Accounting Analysis I

Duration: 7 weeks  |  Credit Hours: 3

Introduction to concepts, purposes, problems, methodology and terminology of financial accounting.

ECON 5311: Economic Analysis

Duration: 7 weeks  |  Credit Hours: 3

Provides an overview of microeconomic foundations of economic analysis with a focus on business applications. Topics include supply and demand, marginal analysis, pricing issues and theory of the firm. An overview of macroeconomics is also provided, covering monetary and fiscal policy, inflation, growth and international trade.

BSTAT 5301: Introduction to Statistics

Duration: 7 weeks  |  Credit Hours: 3

Introduction to statistics, designed to prepare graduate students to become competent consumers of statistical information that they will encounter in their professional and personal lives. Students should be able to perform basic statistical analyses and to think critically when interpreting statistical results. Topics include probability, random variables, sampling distributions, confidence intervals, tests of hypotheses, and simple regression. May not be counted as an MBA foundation course or elective.

MANA 5312: Management of the Enterprise

Duration: 7 weeks  |  Credit Hours: 3

Basic exploration of organizations in their environments. The elementary tools of management, which include: organizational objectives, social responsibility and ethics, policies, plans and decision making; the design of organizations and jobs; the production and technology aspects of organization; the elements of leadership, behavior and communication; and the elements of control and performance evaluation.
