In which online program do you teach online?

MBA

Which class do you teach online?

MANA 5312

What do you want your students to learn in your classes?

The purpose of this course is to examine key topics of interest in the general area of management. Although there are many challenges that any manager faces, often the most critical and demanding ones are those that involve people. Topics will include, but not be limited to: motivation, decision-making, organization structure, diversity, leadership, quality, group dynamics and communication. The intent of the course is that the participant will come away with a deeper understanding of the impact that management has on the individual and on the organization.

What advice would you give to those considering the UTA MBA online program?

Be prepared for hard, challenging work. Many students think that online courses are easier than in-person ones. I believe just the opposite. However, if you work hard, apply yourself and take advantage of all the opportunities available, we will change your life.

What qualities make someone particularly successful in business?

Strong work ethic, ability to look to the future but learn from the past, having an entrepreneurial outlook, treating every job as if you own the business

How do you see online learning affecting the future of education?

This is the way of the future. As technology continues to evolve, it is imperative that we all take advantage of the many ways that technology opens up access to education.

Why did you start teaching?

I needed a new career (this is my third), and teaching at the university level was a great way to use my education and my extensive real-world experience as a way to give back to the community.

What is the one book you think everyone should read?

"Team of Rivals" by Doris Kearns Goodwin

Tell us something interesting about yourself that you students may not know.

I grew up on a farm in rural, western New York. For the first five years of school, I attended a one-room country schoolhouse, with one teacher for grades 1-6. I think this is where I first learned my passion for education.
